Korean grammar #42 '-기 전에'

1. Explanation

 : '-기 전에' is used to indicate that the preceding content is later than following content. It is attached to a verb and indicates that the following action occured in advance than preceding action. Or it is used to express the sequence of events. I recommend you to study this with Korean grammar #32 '-ㄴ 후에/은 후에'  Let's look at examples together.

 자기 전에 뭐해요? (Before sleeping, what do you do?) 

 *자다 to sleep

  1) A verb stem is '자-'

  2) It conjugates with '-기 전에'

  3) 자기 전에

 

 시험 보기 전에 항상 기도해요. (Before taking an exam, I always pray.) 

 *시험 보다 to take a test

  1) A verb stem is '시험 보-'

  2) It conjugates with '-기 전에'

  3) 시험 보기 전에

 

 밥 먹기 전에 손을 씻어야 돼요. (I have to wash my hands before eating.) 

 *먹다 to eat
