Korean grammar '나/너/우리'

 

1. Explanation

 : '나/너/우리/그녀/그/그들' we call these as a '인칭대명사'. They can be translated as 'personal pronouns' in English. Today I'll introduce you to all of personal Korean pronouns. First, let's examine the personal pronouns.

 

  1) 나 / 저 = I (casual / polite)

  2) 너 = You 

  3) 우리 / 저희 = We (casual / polite) 

  4) 그녀 = She

  5) 그 = He

  6) 그들 / 그분들 = They (casual / polite)

    * You can make possesive pronouns. 'personal pronoun + 의 것'

      => 나의/저의 = my                => 나의 것/저의 것 = mine

           너의 = your                     => 너의 것 = yours

           우리의/저희의 = our          => 우리의 것/저희의 것 = ours

           그녀의 = her                    => 그녀의 것 = hers

           그의 = his                       => 그의 것 = his

           그들의/그분들의 - their      => 그들의 것/그분들의 것 = theirs

     * Irregular conjugation

        나 / 저 / 너 conjugate with '가'(subject marker) => 내가 / 제가 / 네가

        나의 / 너의 can be contracted to = 내 / 네

2. Examples

 1) 나 = I (casual) / 저 = I (polite)

    내가 그렸어. ( I drew it. - casual)

    제가 그렸어요. ( I drew it. - polite)

    내 그림이야. ( It's my painting. - casual)

    제 그림이에요. ( It's my painting. - polite)

 

 2) 너 = you

    네가 전화했어? ( Did you make a call. - casual)

    네 핸드폰이야? ( Is this your phone? - polite)

 

 3) 우리 = we (casual) / 저희 = we (polite)

    우리 언제 만나? ( When do we meet? - casual)

    저희 언제 만나요? ( When do we meet? - polite)

    우리의 문화예요. ( It's our culture. - casual)

    저희의 문화예요. ( It's our culture. - polite)

 

 4) 그녀 = she

    그녀가 웃어요. ( She is smiling. )

    그녀의 미소. ( Her smile. )

 

 5) 그 = he

    그는 책을 읽어요. ( He is reading a book. )

    그의 독서습관. ( His reading habit. )

 

 6) 그들 = they (casual) / 그분들 = they (polite)

    그들이 뭐라고 했어? ( What did they say? - casual)

    그분들이 뭐라고 했어요? ( What did they say? - polite)

    그들의 이야기를 들었어. ( I heard their story. - casual)

    그분들의 이야기를 들었어요. ( I heard their story. - polite)
