Korean grammar '-군/는군 (2)'

1. Explanation

 : '-군/는군 (2)' is same with '-는/는군 (1)'. So, on this page, we will practice other forms. You can make a past tense, future tense, and honorific sentence. '-았군요./었군요./였군요.' is used to indicates past tense, '-겠군요' is used to indicates assumption, and '-시군요./시는군요.' Especially '-시군요.' conjugates with adjectives but '-시는군요.' conjugates with verbs. make honorific sentences. Let's look at example together.

2. Examples

 주말에 친구를 만났군요. (You met a friend on the weekend.) 

 *만나다 to meet 

  1) A verb stem is '만나-'

  2) Make it as past tense

  3) It conjugates with '-았군요'

  4) '만나았군요'

  5) '나았' can be contracted to '났'

  6) 만났군요.

 

 삼성은 작년에 큰 수익을 거뒀군요. (Samsung gained a huge profit last year.) 

 *거두다 to gain

  1) A verb stem is '거두-'

  2) Make it as past tense

  3) It conjugates with '-었군요'

  4) '거두었군요'

  5) '두었' can be contracted to '뒀'

  6) 거뒀군요.

 

 최선을 다해 시험을 준비했군요. (You prepared your best best for the exam.) 

 *준비하다 to prepare

  1) A form of a verb is '-하다.'

  2) Make it as past tense

  3) '-하다' changes to '-했군요.'

  4) 준비했군요.

 

 지수 님은 어렸을 때, 정말 귀여웠군요. (Jisu you were really cute when you were little.) 

 *귀엽다 cute

  1) A verb stem is '귀엽-'

  2) It ends with a 'ㅂ' consonant

  3) 'ㅂ' irregular drop

  4) '귀여-' + '-우'

  5) Make it as past tense

  6) It conjugates with '-었군요'

  7) '귀여우었군요.'

  8) '우었' can be contracted to '웠'

  9) 귀여웠군요.

 명절이라서 차가 막히겠군요. (Since it's the holiday season, the traffic must be heavy.)

 *차가 막히다 to stuck

  1) A verb stem is '졸리-'

  2) Make it as assumption

  3) It conjugates with '-겠군요.'

  4) 졸리겠군요.

 

 지금 천안이면 곧 서울에 도착하시는군요. (If you're in Cheonan right now, you must be arriving in Seoul soon.)

 *도착하다 to arrive 

  1) A verb stem is '도착하-'

  2) Make it as honorific expression

  3) It conjugates with '-시는군요.'

  4) 도착하시겠군요.

 

 

3. Practice

 The flight to Seoul has been delayed again. 

 서울행 비행기가 또 지연됐군요. ( *지연되다 be delayed / Past tense ) 

 

 Since it's raining, the weather will be cloudy.

 비가 와서 날씨가 흐리겠군요. ( *흐리다 cloudy / Assumption )

 

 You might be hungry because you haven't eaten anything since moring.

 아침부터 아무것도 못 먹어서 시장하시군요. ( *시장하다 hungry / Honorific )

 

 You might be very tired because you watched dramas until late at night.

 밤늦게까지 드라마를 봐서 많이 피곤하겠군요. ( *피곤하다 tired / Assumption )

 

 Since it suddenly snowed, the event must have been canceled.

 갑자기 눈이 와서 행사가 취소되겠군요. ( *취소되다 be canceled / Assumption )

 

 It was very painful when you had your wisdom tooth pulled.

 사랑니 뺄 때 엄청 고통스러웠겠군요. ( *고통스럽다 painful / Past tense )

 

 The grandfather might be happy to be with his granddaughter.

 할아버지가 손녀와 함께 있으니 기쁘시군요. ( *기쁘다 happy / Honorific )

 

 Since it happened so long ago, you can't remember it at that time.
